Stay Away from Pills, Pills and more Pills!

In November, I went with my husband to see Suzanne Somers in Ottawa for a seminar with Nutrichem Compounding Pharmacy (if I lived in Ottawa, this is where I would go). Their supplements are of superior quality and they make powders especially geared for your needs .The man to go see would be Kent MacLeod.  I called him a scientist because that is the way he thinks and he is amazing.  He will probably give you a body chemistry balance test and if symptoms are more severe, hormonal therapy.  His secretary Laura is fantastic and she will set you up with your needs.  Their phone number is (613) 721-3669.

Back to the seminar, it is valuable information that Suzanne writes in all her books.  She looked amazing as usual and she felt great!  I think hormones are the issue for so many women in menopause and perimenopause.  They create terrible symptoms, which lead women to blow up at their husbands and children.  Like Suzanne says, "itchy, bitchy, sweaty, sleepy, bloated, forgetful and all dried up.” There they are the seven dwarfs of menopause.  Bioidentical hormones take it all away with the right dose.  Not synthetic ones.

So many marriages fail.  I had every symptom and my husband stood right beside me and said, by 50, you will have it all figured out.  He is my strength.  I love him a great deal.  If I only knew my migraines before, during and after my period, were all related to an estrogen problem.  I was so stressed with migraines all the time.  I lived years of torture with this, getting all drugged up.  The pain I had before my period, lead me to think, I had endometriosis.  Throwing up and in bed for 2 days. My doctor did not believe me until I went into full-blown menopause and after tests, told me it was endometriosis. Too much estrogen is carcinogenic and no progesterone.  What a nightmare!  I was so lucky, I did not have cancer.  I took pills to kill the pain of migraines, kill the pain of period cramps and even pills not to bloat before my period.  What a disaster!  Pills! Pills! Pills! I was doing it to myself what a vicious circle.  As I said in my first blog, narrow down the reason why you get migraines.  Mine were mostly hormonal.  Now I only get them once in a while, when I am really stressed.  Before, I would have 20 or 25 migraines a month.  You can imagine how crazy my hormones were and all I did was mask it.  I didn't make the connection.  Now, I watch every symptom and just have to adjust my bioidentical hormones.

The biggest gift, I can give myself is to feel great and treat my body with tender loving care.  We are not machines and even machines break down too.  Our bodies are precious and if we take good care, the reward is there.  It is fun to bring in the New Year with good health and a positive outlook on life, as I never did before.  Stress will make you age and calm will keep you young.
Most of my healing was done by my naturopath, Mariola Livernoche. She believed in me, when I didn’t.  I have been to many naturopaths, but she is the best of the best.  She has a solution to every health issue.  If you are strict and go by what she says, you will see results.  She loves her work and her passion is amazing.  Her secretary, Micheline, makes sure you get all the info you need and works with Mariola to get you on the right track.  This is the kind of team you want to help you in all your health issues.  Her phone number is (514) 381 - 6756 and she works Monday. Tuesday, Wednesday from 1pm to 5pm. She has all the necessary tests available to get to the root of your problem.  Believe me, it is worth the expense, to have a life free of suffering and full of pleasure and hope!

What a beautiful way, to bring in the New Year

Skincare

One Day, I decided to question the products I was using on my skin, to realize they were all CHEMICALS! I'm eating great. I'm putting colorful food in my diet.  I'm eating as much organic as I can.  Yet I was treating my skin in the same manner. I realized how crazy that was.  There is a whole world of body and skincare, free of chemicals, I did not know about.  Remember, toxins make you tired.

As we age, we accumulate more toxins in our bodies.  It is much harder to get them out of our bodies, if we don't do anything about it.  You end up feeling tired all the time, (which was my case exactly).  Add up all the wrong foods and your body ends up not able to fight it off.

In the past, doctors, did not understand this.  Now, more and more doctors (especially the younger generation of them) are open to it.  My doctor is fantastic. He will listen to you and go along with alternative medicine if he sees it works.  You need to ask questions and not keep quiet anymore.

Now, lets get back to skincare.  I loved skincare and make-up all my life.  I don't even want to think about all the chemicals I put on my skin, everyday.  Now, I have skincare and make-up, free of toxins and chemicals.  You have to take the time to read and look at all labels. Some make-up companies may say they are natural, but to be certain they are it is important to do your research.

Tau in Dollard has the best skin-care and make-up section, toxic free and made with oils like sunflower seed, beeswax and willow bark. (See below for their address) The sales girl I love to deal with is Chantal and she can help you find whatever you need. She is very knowledgeable and knows her stuff. (See below for her schedule) It’s definitely worth it to take an afternoon and go have look.  Bring your conventional make-up and match it with what they have.  You do not need to buy much.  You can also buy one piece at a time and slowly change all of you makeup. They way I see it, you will be buying new makeup eventually, why not buy make-up that is actually good for you and will not disrupt your hormones and immune system!  The money women spend on beauty is never ending.  Do something good for yourself and look good while you're at it.

My favourite lines are Lagoona (eye shadows and powder) Zuii (lipsticks are made from flowers sent) Zorah (BB cream is fantastic before foundation or alone) Suki (which has a great concealer with willow bark) and Suzanne Somers’ skin-care and make-up line which are certified toxic free with amazing ingredients that feed your skin. (You can check out suzannesomers.com Another great website is 100percentpure.ca)  If you need extra guidance, there is a great book, called Eccoholic Body by Adria Vasil and she rates make-up as well as skin-care and gives you a comparison between natural and conventional brands.  You will be shocked to see what’s going on your face.  She takes the guesswork out of finding labels on products that are properly certified. Another website ecoholic.ca gives you a list of the main 15 ingredients found in your cosmetics and skin-care and one more site davidsuzuki.org/whatsinside (then click on pocket guide) for the dirty dozen ingredients you use everyday.

Cheers to a future where aging can be fun and your body will love you.

My Story

Hello, my name is Jacqueline

I would like to share some things I know with women of my age group.  If I could help just one other person, I would be satisfied with myself.  I wish I would have known that when I turned forty it would have been the worst decade of my life. My menopause was the root of all my problems.

I will be turning fifty, this November and I finally found peace with myself.  I still have difficult days, but at least when I have stress, the key factor is knowing how to deal with it.  This whole decade, I dealt with loosing a loved one, having life changes, caring for my elderly mother, trying to be a good mother and wife, loosing friends as well as being so sick and tired during it all.  I thought this is how we age.  I never believed my husband, but he told me over and over again, that by fifty, I would have everything all figured out; He was right.

I always had stomach issues with the food I ate as a little girl.  As I entered my forties my issues became worse.  I went in and out of emergencies and doctors’ offices, not finding what my problems were.  I decided to get tested for Gluten.  Thank god I did because I was highly intolerant.  I thought I had celiac, but the tests were negative.  Many people don’t know, but there is a fine line between having the celiac disease and being highly gluten intolerant, which I am.  Lucky I realized that and decided to keep going.

I took a food allergy test and found out that dairy and sugar made very strong reactions in my body, making it feel like there was a constant war in my stomach.  These foods were like invaders to me.  Then I had moderate food groups that I had to be careful with.  I was eating all these foods most of my life, which explained why I was sick all the time.  The process took time and by eliminating foods, I started to feel better.  It took about two years to repair all the damage that was done to my body.  There is so much food out there that I never thought to eat.  I also never thought stress could have such a terrible outcome on my body.  It was so bad that I ended up with acute pancreatitis in a US hospital, while taking care of my mother in Florida.  My body was completely acidic.  My intestinal ph was so imbalanced that I thought I had a heartburn condition for life.  I saw no way out and was so discouraged that I became extremely depressed.  My family was very worried.  I did not want to live anymore.

THE ANSWER:

  • Find cutting edge doctors that don’t give up and look deep to find a solution (not always Medicare)
  • Balance your hormones if you are in menopause or perimenopaause with bio-identical hormones done by a hormone specialist.
  • Get tested if you have indigestion issues with food intolerance test.
  • Change your diet according to results (60% alkaline / 40% acid forming)
  • Detox naturally with food if you do not want to go all out.  Lots of greens.
  • Check your thyroid.  This could be an issue.
  • Get enough sleep to keep cortisol down.  If you have trouble sleeping, get to the root of it with a naturopath or specialist.  Don't mask it with pills.
  • If you suffer from migraines, it could be food, stress, anxiety and hormones.  You can narrow it down, if you have the patience.
  • Acupuncture is a great stress and migraine reliever.
  • Get a colonoscopy after 50 years old to rule out cancer.
  • Keep a journal and record your symptoms.  There is a reason why you feel sick.
  • Check your sugar if you crave sweets with a blood glucose machine.
  • For women, stay away from cosmetics and skincare full of chemicals.  Go to safe cosmetics.org and Femmetoxic.com to see the dangers found in these products.  Tau in the west island has a great cosmetic line made from flowers and plants and I love Suzanne Somers’ line, which is toxic free.
  • Buy house-cleaning products with no harsh chemicals.

Finally I can say, I feel great and I plan to continue my search for aging healthy and loving life in a way I never thought I would.

My life begins at 50.
